A word from Tyler Olsen, DP's Artistic Director
Dear Friends,
We must go forward into the dark.
We have each other: as we plunge into the depths that await, our mutual warmth and kinship will comfort us in fear, sustain us, and guide us when we are lost.
We have our flashlights: our minds and hearts, cutting through the darkness, spilling light on things that may terrify us and things that may grant us solace. Both help us know what it is to be human.
And, of course, there are others in the dark, waiting...
In these others our future lies.
Others are those with whom we will resonate.
Others are those who will need to win over,
Others are those who will show us darkness greater than we can imagine.
All of us, out there in the dark. Together.
It is easy to despair, to be lulled by hopelessness into inaction and suffering and despondency.
As we watch the dark closing in.
But we have not the time nor luxury of curling up on the ground, hoping the monsters will pass us by: they will not.
Instead, let us stride forward together, linked arm in arm, flashlights blazing, galvanized into action, headlong into the setting sun.
And let's make new friends out there in the dark.
They've got flashlights, too.
Forward ho,
Tyler
