Dangerous Productions is hiring 2 artist-teacher-athletes for its upcoming project Jungle2Jungle. Ideal applicants are enthusiastic, imaginative artists to work with a group of Karen refugee teens at two Saint Paul High Schools. Together you will create live performance games inspired by their stories of moving from the jungles of Thailand to the jungles of Saint Paul.
The project will include the learning of parkour/free running skills (training included), interviews and story sharing with Karen refugee young adults from 2 different Saint Paul High Schools, the development of “performance games” based on those interviews, and the creation/presentation of a final performance.
We will create two different performances with groups of students from two different schools. One will rehearse over the course of March and April with a performance in mid-April and one will rehearse over the course of late April and May with a performance in early June.
Ideal instructors will have experience teaching, work well with artists and instructors from the Karen Organization of Minnesota and Fight or Flight Academy to create a fun, flexible, supportive and open experience. No previous parkour experience necessary (training in parkour is provided), but instructors will be expected to participate in all class activities.
Requirements: -21 years of age -Have a car & driver’s license -Pass a background check -Physically able to do parkour -Teaching experience
Desired attributes -Previous Teaching experience with teens -Interest in or previous experience working with refugee/ESL populations -Athletic skill/aptitude -Imaginative/Creative thinking
Time Commitment: March 1-June 9 (School 1- March 9-April 24, School 2- April 27-June 9) -March 1-March 8 3 hours/week of Planning -March 9-June 13 Availability 2 days a week (Mon-Thu) between 2-6:30pm for student instruction -available 2 hours each week for project meeting/planning -During Tech weeks (4/19-24, 6/1-5) meeting 5 days/week after school and Friday evening. -Wrap up meetings week of June 7
Expectations: Instructors will be expected to: Attend Parkour classes at Fight or Flight Academy in Edina Learn about/research Karen culture outside of rehearsals Develop of rehearsal plans for each week in collaboration with other teaching instructors Drive students home after rehearsals Create/put together an exciting and informative 45-minute long final production for both participants and audience, inspired by student input Attend and participate in all rehearsals, meetings and performances Assist with set up and take down of rehearsal equipment before and after rehearsals Helping ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming rehearsal environment Keep in good communication with project management throughout the process
Stipend: $2400 stipend Transportation Stipend
DP will also provide: Free parkour training and classes at Fight or Flight Academy Parkour shoes and T-shirts Technical & program support
